Enter a domain and see whether its SSL certificate is valid, when it expires, who issued it and which domains it covers. Use it to catch an expiring certificate before visitors see a browser warning.
What you will see
- Status: valid, expiring soon (30 days or less), expired, not trusted, or not yet valid.
- Days remaining: how long until the certificate expires.
- Issuer: the certificate authority, such as Let’s Encrypt or DigiCert.
- Validity dates: when the certificate starts and ends.
- Covered domains: every domain and subdomain listed on the certificate.
- Connection details: TLS protocol, cipher, signature type, serial number and SHA-256 fingerprint.
- Certificate chain: the intermediate and root certificates the server sends.
How to use the SSL checker
- Type your domain, for example
example.com. You can paste a full URL too; the tool removes the https:// and the path for you. - Click Check SSL.
- Read the status at the top. Green means the certificate is valid, amber means it expires soon, and red means there is a problem.
- Check the covered domains list to confirm your domain is included.
Why SSL checks matter
An expired or misconfigured certificate makes browsers show a full-page security warning, and most visitors leave. It can also hurt your search visibility and break payments on WooCommerce stores. A quick check every month, or right after you renew or move hosts, avoids those surprises.
Common SSL problems and how to fix them
- Certificate expired: renew it with your host or certificate provider. If you use Let’s Encrypt, check that auto-renewal is running.
- Not trusted: the server may be missing its intermediate certificate. Install the full chain from your provider.
- Domain not covered: the certificate was issued for a different name. Reissue it to include your domain (and the www version).
- Could not complete a handshake: SSL may not be installed, or port 443 is blocked by a firewall.
- Mixed content after enabling HTTPS: update your WordPress URLs to https:// and replace old http:// links in your content.
Frequently asked questions
What is an SSL certificate?
It is a digital certificate that lets a browser confirm a website’s identity and encrypt the connection. It is what puts the padlock and https:// in the address bar.
How do I check when my SSL certificate expires?
Enter your domain above. The result shows the exact expiry date and how many days are left.
How long does an SSL certificate last?
It depends on the provider. Let’s Encrypt certificates last 90 days and renew automatically on most hosts. Paid certificates are usually valid for up to a year or less.
Why does my site show “Not secure”?
Common causes are an expired certificate, a certificate for the wrong domain, a missing intermediate certificate, or mixed content (http:// images or scripts on an https:// page).
Does this tool work with subdomains?
Yes. Enter the subdomain, such as shop.example.com, and the tool checks the certificate served for that name.
Does it check port 443 only?
Yes. It checks the standard HTTPS port, which is what browsers use.
Is the SSL checker free?
Yes. It is free, needs no account, and has no limit beyond a short rate limit to prevent abuse.
